Born in Perpignan, Arago displayed an early aptitude for mathematics and science. He began his scientific career as an assistant to the renowned mathematician Joseph Fourier. In 1816, Arago was appointed as the director of the Paris Observatory, where he made several significant discoveries. One of his most notable findings was the discovery of the magnetic effect of telluric currents, which he demonstrated through the famous "Arago's pendulum" experiment. Arago's work in astronomy was also noteworthy. He discovered several celestial bodies, including the asteroid Vesta and the moons of Mars, Deimos and Phobos. Arago's astronomical observations contributed to the understanding of the solar system and the nature of celestial bodies.
