Replacing Kyle Lafferty, Boyd's arrival marked a significant shift in the team's fortunes, as they looked to secure a place in the next round of the prestigious competition. The previous seasons had seen Rangers dominate Scottish football, but the 09-10 campaign presented new challenges. With Lafferty's departure due to injury, the team was in need of a reliable striker to lead the line.
