Human venous system
LeonardoÔé¼Ôäós anatomical drawing of a man to show the heart lungs and main arteries. Drawing of a " venous figure" by Leonardo da Vinci, taken from his Anatomical note- books. This standing figure with its expressive sad face shows the blood circulation (veins) and some body organs. Dated about 1494, it is an early drawing by da Vinci, before he had access to dissection. The anatomy is therefore in places incorrect such as the circulation around the heart and liver, oddly shaped kidneys, and ureters not entering the urinary bladder. Veins in the arms and legs are fairly accurate. Anatomical practice at this time was to portray the " tree of the vessels" against " spiritual parts" (the liver and heart). Da Vincis " mirror" writing is seen

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Leonardo da Vinci's anatomical drawing of a man, specifically focusing on the human venous system. Created around 1494, this early masterpiece by da Vinci provides an intriguing glimpse into his understanding of the body's blood circulation and some internal organs. Despite its inaccuracies in certain areas due to limited access to dissection at that time, this drawing remains a testament to da Vinci's unparalleled curiosity and artistic talent. The standing figure depicted in the print features a poignant expression on its face, adding an emotional depth to the scientific illustration. The veins in the arms and legs are remarkably accurate, highlighting da Vinci's meticulous attention to detail. While observing this historical image, one can appreciate both its artistic beauty and scientific significance. It serves as a reminder of how far our knowledge of human anatomy has progressed over centuries thanks to pioneers like Leonardo da Vinci. This print is not only an ode to his genius but also a testament to our ongoing pursuit of understanding and caring for our intricate vascular systems within our bodies.
