EDITORS COMMENTS
In this historic moment captured by Kirk O'Rourke, Rangers Football Club players El Hadji Diouf and Kenny McDowall celebrate their victory in the Co-operative Cup final of 2011. The Co-operative Cup, also known as the Scottish Cooperative Cup or the Co-op Cup, is a Scottish football competition that was established in 1891. It was contested by teams from the Scottish Football League and the Scottish Football Association until it was discontinued in 2013. This particular final was a significant one for Rangers Football Club, as they faced their arch-rivals, Celtic, in the Hampden Park stadium. The atmosphere was electric, with both sets of fans passionately supporting their teams. The match was a closely contested one, with neither team able to gain a clear advantage. However, in the 83rd minute, Diouf scored the winning goal, sending the Rangers fans into raptures. McDowall, who had provided the assist for Diouf's goal, was the first to reach him, and the two players embraced in a jubilant celebration. Diouf, a Senegalese international, had only joined Rangers a few months earlier, and this victory was a perfect way for him to establish himself as a fan favorite. McDowall, a Scottish international and a product of Rangers' youth academy, was a popular figure among the fans, and his contribution to the team was invaluable. As they lifted the Co-operative Cup trophy together, Diouf and McDowall embodied the spirit of teamwork and camaraderie that is at the heart of football. This iconic image is a reminder of a memorable moment in Rangers Football Club's history, and it continues to inspire fans to this day.
