EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the facade of the Bath Tavern, a cherished public house located in the heart of Peckham, London. The image presents a frontal view of the pub, its red brick exterior adorned with ornate white detailing and the distinctive "Bath Tavern" sign hanging proudly above the entrance. The pub, a beloved watering hole for locals and visitors alike, was a testament to the rich history and character of this vibrant neighborhood. The Bath Tavern, which was not affiliated with Hoare & Company Limited, was a quintessential British pub, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere where friends could gather over a pint and reminisce about days gone by. The pub, which was located at 113-115 Peckham High Street, SE15 2LW, had stood the test of time, serving its community for many years. Sadly, as of July 2018, the Bath Tavern, like so many historic pubs before it, was no more. Demolished, it now exists only in memory and in photographs like this one. The loss of such establishments is a reminder of the importance of preserving our cultural heritage and the unique character of our communities. This photograph, taken by The National Brewery Heritage Trust, is a poignant reminder of the Bath Tavern and the role it played in the lives of those who frequented it. The back of the print includes the address and date of the photograph, making it a valuable historical document as well as a beautiful work of art.
