Jigsaw Puzzles from Mary Evans Picture Library
The Peacocks Skirt
An original, vintage, poster of The Peacock Skirt, an 1893 illustration by Aubrey Beardsley, published by Big O Posters Inc, in about 1969. Throughout the 1960s and 70s, London-based Big O Posters helped define the new and democratic art medium of the decorative psychedelic poster, that went hand in hand with the music, literature, and film of the time. Beardsley's provocative and somewhat trippy drawings (originally published to illustrate Oscar Wilde's one-act play Salome in 1894), chimed with the mood of the era and were much reproduced during the late 60s. This very large, and beautifully printed, poster came from the collection of a London printer and may have been a proof with larger than normal margins at the right-hand side and base Date: 1969
