EDITORS COMMENTS
"This powerful and poignant photograph captures the moment of triumph and reverence as Rangers Football Club lifted the Scottish Cup in 2003, adorned in their special edition poppy shirts. The team, led by manager Alex McLeish, had secured their place in Scottish football history with an impressive 3-0 victory over Celtic, making it their 33rd league title and their 32nd domestic trophy. But this victory was more than just another accolade for the Glasgow giants; it was a tribute to the fallen heroes. The poppy, a symbol of remembrance and respect for those who have given their lives in the service of their country, was proudly displayed on the shirts of every player. The idea for the poppy design was inspired by the Royal British Legion Scotland Poppy Appeal, an annual fundraising campaign to support the welfare of the Armed Forces community. The poppy shirts were worn in honor of Remembrance Day, a day set aside to remember and honor the sacrifices made by service men and women throughout history. As the team hoisted the Scottish Cup aloft, the sea of poppy-adorned shirts in the Hampden Park stands created a breathtaking sight, a powerful reminder of the importance of remembrance and the enduring spirit of the Scottish football community. The image of Rangers Football Club as Scottish Cup Champions, wearing the poppy shirts, serves as a poignant and enduring symbol of respect, remembrance, and the unbreakable bond between football and the Armed Forces."
