EDITORS COMMENTS
In the thrilling finale of the Old Firm Derby on March 28,2004, at Ibrox Stadium, Celtic emerged as the victors over Rangers with a 1-2 scoreline. The decisive moment came in the 89th minute when Rangers substitute Steven Thompson scored an own goal, inadvertently deflecting a cross from Celtic's Chris Sutton into his own net. Thompson, a product of the Dunfermline Athletic youth academy, had only joined Rangers a few months prior to this match, and this goal marked a bittersweet moment in his career. The goal was a turning point in the Scottish Premier League season, with Celtic going on to win the title, while Rangers finished second. Lynne Cameron's photograph captures the intense emotion of the moment, with Thompson's dejected expression and the jubilant reaction of Celtic players and fans. The image is a testament to the passion and intensity of the Old Firm Derby, one of the most hotly contested football rivalries in the world. The photograph also serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of football, where the outcome of a match can hinge on a single moment of misfortune or fortune. For Thompson, it was a moment of misfortune that would be etched into the annals of Scottish football history. But for Celtic fans, it was a moment of triumph and celebration, as their team clinched the title and secured their place at the top of Scottish football once again.
