EDITORS COMMENTS
In 1910, the Grafton Galleries in London hosted a groundbreaking exhibition titled "Manet and the Post-Impressionists." This landmark event marked a significant shift in the art world, as it introduced the public to a new movement in painting that challenged the traditional Impressionist style. The top left corner of this photograph captures six masterpieces from the exhibition, showcasing the works of Vincent Van Gogh, Maurice Denis, Paul Gauguin, and Henri Matisse. The first Van Gogh painting, "Jeune Fille au Bleuet," depicts a young girl in a blue dress, her face turned away from the viewer, lost in thought. The second painting, "Madone au Jardin Fleuri" by Maurice Denis, portrays a Madonna surrounded by vibrant flowers, her serene expression contrasting with the lively colors. Next to Denis' painting is "La Berceuse" by Van Gogh, a poignant image of a woman singing to a baby, her face illuminated by the soft glow of a lamp. The following painting, "Orphee" by Denis, is a striking representation of the mythological figure Orpheus, with his melancholic expression and the ethereal figures in the background. Paul Gauguin's "Vue sur la Martinique" and "La Femme aux Yeux Verts" are also featured in this photograph. The former painting is an evocative depiction of the tropical landscape of Martinique, with its lush greenery and vibrant colors. The latter painting, "La Femme aux Yeux Verts," is a sensual portrait of a woman with emerald-green eyes, her enigmatic expression captivating the viewer. Lastly, "L'Appel" by Paul Gauguin, a powerful and symbolic painting of a Tahitian woman, is shown in the bottom right corner. This exhibition, which brought together these extraordinary works, marked a turning point in the art world, as it introduced the public to the bold and innovative style of Post-Impressionism.
