EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Vincent van Gogh's masterpiece, "Olive Orchard mid-June, 1889". Painted on canvas with oil, this artwork measures 72x92 cm and is currently housed in the Rijksmuseum Kroller-Muller in Otterlo, Netherlands. During his stay at an asylum in Saint-Remy-de-Provence from May 1889 to May 1890, Van Gogh immersed himself in painting the gardens of the asylum and ventured outside its walls to capture nearby olive trees, cypresses, and wheat fields. It is believed that he was heavily influenced by Utagawa Hiroshige's woodblock print titled "Maiko Beach (Harima, Maiko on hama)" from 1853 when creating this particular piece. The painting belongs to Van Gogh's Japonaiserie series which reflects his fascination with Japanese art and culture. The influence of Asian aesthetics can be seen through his use of vibrant colors and bold brushstrokes. This fusion of Western impressionism with Eastern influences creates a unique visual experience for viewers. Van Gogh painted numerous olive tree scenes throughout his career but considered this specific artwork as one of his finest representations. The tranquil beauty of the orchard is captured flawlessly as sunlight filters through the branches onto the lush green landscape below. With its rich history and artistic significance, this print serves as a testament to Van Gogh's genius and enduring legacy.
