Japanese Robin Collection

The Japanese Robin (Erithacus akahige) is a small passerine bird belonging to the family Muscicapidae, and is native to Japan, where it is found in forests and woodlands, reddish-brown head, wings, and tail, with white underparts and a black bill. It feeds mainly on insects but also eats fruit and berries. Its song consists of short phrases of two or three notes that are repeated several times. During the breeding season, males sing from exposed perches to attract females for mating. The female builds the nest in trees or shrubs near water sources such as streams or ponds where she lays her eggs which hatch after about two weeks. This species is not considered threatened but its population has declined due to habitat destruction caused by human activities such as deforestation and urbanization.
