Fossilised pterosaur footprint
Fossilised pterosaur footprint. Fossilised remains of a footprint made by a Pterodactylus cerinensis pterosaur during the Jurassic period (around 200 to 145 million years ago). Pterodactylus were flying reptiles that lived during the Late Jurassic period (150-148 million years ago) and were the first pterosaur genus to be identified. They had elongated jaws with teeth, a long tail and a wingspan of up to 1.5 metres. This footprint measure about 3cm across and was found in the Mas de Pegourdy quarry, Crayssac, Lot, France

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a remarkable fossilized pterosaur footprint, providing us with a glimpse into the ancient world of the Jurassic period. Preserved for over 145 million years, this particular imprint was made by a Pterodactylus cerinensis pterosaur in what is now known as Lot, France. Pterodactylus were extraordinary flying reptiles that roamed the skies during the Late Jurassic era. With elongated jaws filled with teeth and an impressive wingspan of up to 1.5 meters, they were pioneers among their kind. This single footprint measures around 3cm across and serves as a testament to their existence. Discovered in Mas de Pegourdy quarry in Crayssac, this fossilized trace offers invaluable insights into both zoology and geology. It represents an important piece of our biological and paleontological history, shedding light on these extinct creatures' biology and behavior. As we marvel at this mineralized relic from prehistory, it's impossible not to feel awe-struck by its significance. The intricate details preserved within the rock formation allow us to study the anatomy of these magnificent beings that once soared through ancient skies. Thanks to Sinclair Stammers' exceptional photography skills, we can appreciate this rare artifact from Europe's past without leaving our present-day surroundings. Letting our imagination take flight alongside these long-extinct reptiles becomes effortless when faced with such tangible evidence of their existence.
