Cat "Lucky"with football at the Valley, home ground of Charlton Athletic

Cat " Lucky" with football at the Valley, home ground of Charlton Athletic football club. This puss was adopted by Charlton and christened Lucky after straying into the Valley in August 1968. Charlton did not lose another match until the end of September and went on to finish third in the second division, the highest for 11 years. Lucky rubbed off in the FA Cup as well. Luckys last significant act was to relieve himself on the pitch during a league match against Derby. Ronnie Moore went on to score the only goal of the game in the 84th minute. September 1968

Cat 'Lucky' Brings Fortune to Charlton Athletic at the Valley

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this print from Memory Lane Prints, we are transported back to the 1960s, where a furry feline named Lucky takes center stage at the home ground of Charlton Athletic football club. Adopted by the team after wandering into the Valley in August 1968, Lucky quickly became their beloved mascot. The timing of Lucky's arrival seemed almost magical, as Charlton went on an incredible winning streak that lasted until September. Their remarkable performance led them to finish third in the second division, marking their highest achievement in over a decade. But it wasn't just league matches where Lucky's presence made an impact; even in cup competitions like FA Cup, luck seemed to follow him. However, it was during a league match against Derby when Lucky left his final mark on history. In true feline fashion and perhaps with a touch of mischief, he relieved himself on the pitch. Astonishingly enough, moments later Ronnie Moore scored the only goal of the game in favor of Charlton Athletic. This charming photograph captures not only a cute cat but also embodies superstition and belief in lucky charms within sports culture. It serves as a reminder that sometimes unexpected companions can bring fortune and joy to our lives – even if they have four paws instead of two feet!
