Aged Broad Donated Easter Eventually Forty Hatton Housed Picnic Premises Previously Staff Strays Waifs Wellingborough

EDITORS COMMENTS
This enchanting photograph captures the joy and camaraderie of a special Easter picnic at the Wellingborough Boys Home in the 1920s. Located at Broad Green, the premises of the Hatton Home, previously known as Hatton Hall, were donated to the Waifs and Strays Society in 1913. The Society, dedicated to the care and protection of children in need, eventually housed forty boys aged between 8 and 15 years old. In this heartwarming scene, boys and staff from the Home enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the sun, surrounded by the beauty of nature. The boys, dressed in their Sunday best, sit on the grass, engaged in lively conversation and laughter, while the staff look on, ensuring their wellbeing. The tranquil setting, with its vibrant spring flowers and picturesque backdrop of trees, adds to the idyllic atmosphere. The Hatton Home, with its rich history, played a significant role in the lives of many children during the 1920s. Providing them with a safe and nurturing environment, the Home offered these boys a chance to grow and thrive, away from the hardships and challenges they may have faced in their everyday lives. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of community, compassion, and the power of a simple picnic to bring joy and happiness. The Waifs and Strays Society, now known as The Children's Society, continues its mission to support and protect vulnerable children and young people in the UK, ensuring that they have the opportunity to reach their full potential and build a brighter future.
