EDITORS COMMENTS
This awe-inspiring aerial photograph captures the timeless beauty and grandeur of the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Dating back to the Old and Middle Kingdom periods of Ancient Egypt, these pyramids were built as tombs for Pharaohs Khufu (Cheops), Khafre (Chephren), and Menkaure (Mykerinos), along with their consorts and various nobles. The largest of the three pyramids, the Great Pyramid of Khufu, is the oldest and the only remaining structure of the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It is believed to have been built around 2580 BC and stands at an impressive height of 146.5 meters (481 feet). The Pyramid of Khafre, the second largest, is slightly smaller and was built as a tomb for Khafre around 2520 BC. The Pyramid of Menkaure, the smallest of the three, was built around 2490 BC. These iconic structures are situated in the Giza Necropolis, on the outskirts of modern-day Cairo, and are surrounded by the vast expanse of the desert. The pyramids are not only a testament to the architectural and engineering prowess of the ancient Egyptians but also a reminder of their rich history and cultural heritage. This photograph, taken in the circa 1930s, offers a unique perspective of the pyramids, revealing their true scale and the intricate details of their design. The desert sands, which have preserved these structures for thousands of years, add to their mystique and allure, making them a must-see destination for travelers and history enthusiasts alike.
