EDITORS COMMENTS
This hand-colored aquatint engraving depicts the Military Staff and Aides-de-Camp in Queen Victoria's coronation parade, held on June 28, 1838. The image showcases an array of distinguished military figures, including the Equerry of the Crown Stable, Sir George Augustus Quentin, Queen's Gentleman Rider, Deputy Adjutant General, Deputy Quartermaster General, Deputy Adjutant General Royal Artillery, Quartermaster General, Military Secretary to the Commander-in-Chief, and Adjutant General. The Egyptian-style wall hangings in the background, painted on wood and lacquered, add an exotic and opulent touch to the scene. The pelmet, satin, lambrequin, velvet, and other rich fabrics adorned with ancient Egyptian motifs such as croisee and genre egyptien, create a grandeur that befits the occasion. The intricate application of coloris contre fond, a technique used to create depth and texture, adds to the visual appeal of the image. The petit velours pentes and broderies colorées franges assortis are particularly noteworthy, as are the chromolithograph and lithograph elements that bring the scene to life. The Military Staff and Aides-de-Camp are dressed in their finest uniforms, reflecting the grandeur and splendor of the occasion. The interior design of the room, with its new models of window drapes and curtains, is reminiscent of the luxury décor popular in France around the turn of the 20th century. This stunning image was created by the renowned designer and decorator Henry Sicard Farradesche and published by Fores, Sporting and Fine Print Repository in Piccadilly, London, in 1838.
