The Queen's Visit to Birmingham - the Departure from Warwick Castle, 1858. At half-past four o'clock her Majesty took her departure from Warwick Castle, expressing the pleasure she had experienced in visiting the castle and the ancient town, of which it was the chief attraction. The Royal cortege took the road through the park, and emerged at West-street, where her Majesty was received with hearty acclamations by the inhabitants assembled in the neighbourhood...A few minutes sufficed to bring the Royal party to the Great Western Railway station, where a guard of honour, consisting of a hundred men of the 22nd Regiment of Foot, commanded by Sir G. Robinson, was stationed, and who saluted her Majesty on her approach'. From "Illustrated London News", 1858

The image, created by an unknown artist, depicts Queen Victoria (1819-1901), the Empress of India, bidding farewell to Warwick Castle. The monarch, dressed in her regal attire, expresses her pleasure after visiting the ancient castle and the town, which was its primary attraction. The scene unfolds as the Queen's cortege leaves Warwick Castle at 4:30 p.m. The Royal procession travels through the park, and the inhabitants of the area eagerly gather to welcome her with hearty acclamations. The Queen is soon joined by her entourage, including Earl Brooke (George Guy Greville, 4th Earl of Warwick), and they make their way to the Great Western Railway station.
