The New Lord Mayor - the Right Hon. John Musgrove, 1850. Creator: Unknown
The New Lord Mayor - the Right Hon. John Musgrove, 1850. Portrait of John Musgrove, British businessman and Lord Mayor of London. The Lord Chancellor congratulated the Lord Mayor elect upon the approbation which her Majesty had been graciously pleased to signify of the election made by the citizens of London. It was a source of great satisfaction to find that a gentleman whom his fellow-citizens held in so much honour and respect was chosen to the high office of chief magistrate at a time when such an influx of foreigners from all parts of the world as had never been imagined before was about to take place. The Exhibition of 1851 would be supported most powerfully throughout the Queen's dominions, and a most zealous activity would...be required from, and no doubt be afforded by, the gentleman whose election was hailed with such flattering circumstances'. From "Illustrated London News", 1850
