EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning 18th century portrait captures the elegance and affluence of Katarina Opalinski, Countess of Opalinski and Queen Consort of Poland, painted by Jaen Starbus (also known as Johan Starbusch) around the early 18th century. The Countess, born in the Netherlands, is depicted in an opulent setting, wearing the finest apparel of the Baroque era. Her dress, made of rich red fabric, is adorned with intricate gold embroidery and a voluminous mantle, which adds to her regal presence. The ermine fur lining of her mantle and the handheld fan, both symbols of royalty, further accentuate her status. The portrait exudes a sense of grandeur and heritage, reflecting the opulence of the Baroque era. The painting, created using oil on canvas, is currently housed in the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, Sweden, and is a testament to the fashion and concept of the 18th century. The Countess's expression, with a hint of a smile, exudes a sense of confidence and poise, making this portrait a true masterpiece of the Dutch School.
