The Figure in Panyer Alley, 1897 - A Timeless Monument of London's History

EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print captures the enigmatic stone monument known as "The Figure in Panyer Alley" located near St Paul's Cathedral in London. Created by an unknown artist in 1688, this sculpture depicts a young boy seated on an upturned basket or panyer. The inscription reads, "When ye have sought the City Round. Yet still this is the highest ground". Dating back to the 17th century, this artwork holds great historical significance for the city of London. In the 19th century, measurements revealed that Panyer Alley fell just one foot short of being the highest point within the City.
