From tending to crops and livestock to maintaining farm buildings, these hardworking individuals have been the backbone of rural communities. In the painting "The Bear Assaulted by the Peasants, " created by Allart van Everdingen in the mid-17th century, we catch a glimpse defending their land against wild animals.
