"Bawdy: A Luxurious Indulgence in Comforts and Satirical Delights" Step into the world extravagance, where luxury intertwines with scandalous humor. In this captivating etching by Charles Williams circa 1801, we witness a satire on an advertisement for Rumford stoves - Sir Benjamin Thompson's ingenious invention that revolutionized fireplaces. The colorization adds a touch of opulence to this masterpiece. Amidst the mirthful scene, a daring woman raises her skirts, fearlessly scaring off the devil himself. Her audacity echoes the spirit of American actress pin-up photographs during World War II - capturing hearts and boosting morale among our armed forces. Transporting us back to 1920 Germany is Walter Schnackenberg's Odeon Casino poster. Its vibrant display entices patrons into a realm filled with excitement and entertainment. Meanwhile, Eduard Thony's drawing from 1926 introduces us to Nacktkultur (Nudism), embracing freedom and celebrating natural beauty. Humor takes center stage as we stumble upon a funny saucy wedding postcard, reminding us that laughter can be found even in the most unexpected places. La Goulue, a French can-can dancer depicted in c1888 nude study photograph, exudes both sensuality and confidence. The Brilliants lithograph from 1801 transports us to an era where elegance meets artistic brilliance through black-and-white photography. On another note entirely, Lewis Baumer's illustration portrays two women immersed in conversation at a Cafe Chantant - their expressions hinting at secrets shared over cups of coffee. Delving further into history brings forth "The Embracing Cavalier, " an oil painting dating back to c. 1660-65; its passionate embrace transcends time and speaks volumes about love's enduring power. Lastly but certainly not least is Sally Rand - an iconic American burlesque dancer who captivated audiences with her enchanting performances.
