The image captures a pivotal moment in the European campaign of one of Scotland's most successful football clubs. With Rangers holding a slim 1-0 advantage from the first leg, the pressure was on to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the competition. The home team, wearing their iconic blue and white striped shirts, were determined to defend their lead and progress to the next stage. Smith, a former Rangers player and later captain, had taken over as manager in 1991. He had already led the team to the Scottish Premier League title in his first full season in charge, and now he was aiming to guide them to European success.
