St. Govans Chapel is a chapel located at St. Govans Head, Pembrokeshire in south west Wales.
Built into the side of a limestone cliff, the building with walls constructed from limestone, consists of two chambers, one in the front and one in the back. The majority of the chapel was built in the thirteenth century, although parts of it may date back further to the sixth century when Saint Govan, a monk moved into a cave located on the site of the chapel. One legend suggests that Saint Govan is buried underneath the chapels altar, located at the east end of the building. The entrance to the building is via. a doorway on the north side, low stone benches run along the north and south walls and an empty bell-cote is located at the west end. The slate roof is suspected to be a modern addition compared to the rest of the building

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the breathtaking beauty of St. Govans Head, a remarkable landmark nestled along the stunning coastline of Pembrokeshire, Wales. Standing proudly against the dramatic backdrop of nature's masterpiece, the historic St. Govans Chapel takes center stage in this image. Built into the rugged side of a limestone cliff, this architectural marvel boasts walls constructed from limestone and consists of two chambers - one at the front and another at the back. With its origins dating back to the thirteenth century, it is believed that parts of this sacred place may even trace their roots to as early as the sixth century when Saint Govan himself sought solace in a nearby cave. Legend has it that Saint Govan rests eternally beneath the chapel's altar, located at its eastern end. The entrance to this spiritual sanctuary can be found through a doorway on its north side while low stone benches adorn both its northern and southern walls. Atop lies an empty bell-cote gracefully adorning its western end. While most elements showcase timeless craftsmanship, suspicions arise regarding a more modern addition -the slate roof- which contrasts with older sections of this enchanting structure. Through Southern Lightscapes-Australia's lens, we are transported to an ethereal world where history merges seamlessly with nature's grandeur; inviting us to explore and appreciate Wales' rich cultural heritage encapsulated within St. Govans Head and its iconic chapel.
