EDITORS COMMENTS
To commemorate the triumphant victory of the 21st Army Group over their German adversaries, a powerful display of honor unfolded at Field Marshal Montgomery's headquarters on Saturday, May 5th, 1945. The resounding salute came in the form of 21 rounds fired from each of the formidable 24 3.7 artillery guns. These mighty cannons belonged to the esteemed 168th, 169th, and 205th batteries of the renowned City of London's Ha Regiment within the valiant and battle-tested 60th division. Having already demonstrated exceptional bravery during the relentless bombings endured in London during World War II, this regiment continued to exhibit unwavering dedication on European soil since D-Day. The photograph captured on that historic day encapsulates a momentous chapter in history as it immortalizes not only an army's triumph but also pays tribute to all those who fought valiantly against tyranny and oppression. It serves as a poignant reminder of sacrifice and resilience amidst war-torn Europe. This image transports us back to that fateful afternoon when jubilation mingled with relief filled the air. As we gaze upon this snapshot frozen in time, we are reminded once again that victory is hard-earned but never forgotten.
