James Hirst, 84, retires after over 70 years as the chorister at Kirkheaton Parish Church, Friday 8th February 1985. Mr Hirst joined the choir aged 6, and has hardly missed a practice or service ever since. He was presentedwith garden plants and garden gift vouchers by his fellow choristers. The presentation was at the home of Joan Gorton, who has sung with the choir for 14 years.
