The image showcases the corner view of this historic building, with its distinctive red brick facade and ornate signage. The George & Dragon, a cherished local institution, has a rich history that can be traced back to at least 1950, as evidenced by the trading record detailed on the reverse of this print. During the 1950s, the pub was under the ownership of an undisclosed company, but it is known that Punch Taverns took over in 1952. The George & Dragon has since undergone several name changes, with Thompson & Son Limited taking over at some point. However, despite these changes, the pub has remained a beloved watering hole for the community of Walmer. This photograph offers a glimpse into the past, transporting us back to a time when life moved at a slower pace. The George & Dragon stands as a testament to the history and character of Walmer, and serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving our local pubs and the stories they hold.
