Painted by Marco Ricci, a renowned Italian artist of the 17th and 18th centuries, this oil on canvas masterpiece measures 48x57.1 cm and is currently held in a private collection. The inscription on the artwork reveals that it was acquired by Horace Walpole at the sale of John Duke of Argyll in March 1771. Interestingly, Walpole disputes the commonly attributed painter as William Hogarth, stating that the singers depicted in the painting predate Hogarth's work based on their attire from Queen Anne's reign. Walpole confidently asserts that Sebastian Ricci painted this stunning piece while his brother Marco Ricci contributed to its breathtaking landscape.
